HOWARD COUNTY, Md. (WUSA) -- Howard County Fire and Rescue retrieved an elderly woman trapped in a vehicle submerged in a back yard pool Saturday.

Officials say around 1:30 a.m. Fire and Rescue responded to a call on the 6600 block of Carlinda Avenue in Columbia. The vehicle had traveled down a 100 foot embankment and required the use of ground ladders and rope rigging systems to get to the woman.

Personnel found her conscious but disoriented with water up to her chest. The patient was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma for treatment. Her condition is not known at this time.
