Photo Gallery | PHOTOS: First Responders Receive Awards For Beltway Rescue

More than a dozen firefighters and paramedics were presented with Emergency Services Awards  on Tuesday for their actions during a multiple car crash.

The accident took place on Saturday, April 14th at about 1:18 a.m. on the Capital Beltway near the Ritchie-Marlboro Road interchange. The multiple car accident involved a vehicle that caught on fire with the driver trapped inside.

Firefighters arrived on the scene, extinguished the fire and removed the driver from the vehicle. Emergency Medical Responders tended to the critcally burned and injured victim, who was then transported to a burn unit and remains in critical condition.

"Without the efforts of everyone involved the victim would not have had a chance of survival. I am convinced thta without the efforts of these individuals the patients outcome would not have been the same," said Fire Chief Marc S. Bashoor who also presented the awards.
