LAUREL, Md. (WUSA9) -- Two men were detained Sunday morning after a five hour standoff at a Laurel apartment, according to Laurel police.

At approximately 8:15 p.m., police say officers were called to the 900 block of 8th Street for reports of shots being fired. A fight involving at least 10 people broke out at an apartment party and police say witnesses called and reported that shots were fired.

Officers made contact with two men in the apartment, but police say the men refused to come out. Police say a 28-year-old man and another man inside the apartment surrendered early Sunday without incident.

Both men were detained and questioned. Police say no charges have been filed at this time.

Police say some residents were evacuated to Partnership Hall on 5th Street as a precaution. Montrose Avenue between 7th Street and Harrison was shut down by this incident, police said.
