Laurel mosquito spraying program to start

LAUREL, Md. (WUSA9) -- Laurel Mayor, Craig A. announced Tuesday that this year's mosquito spraying program is starting and will continue through the month of September.

Authorities said trucks from the Maryland Department of Agriculture-Mosquito Section will be in Laurel on Sundays starting at dusk until 1 a.m. The spraying is city-wide.

According to authorities, spraying will usually start in the areas off of Contee Road and then go through the city, ending in the Patuxent Glen Community.

The spraying agent is Biomist 30 + 30 and is not harmful to pets, authorities said. The spray disperses in about 30 minutes, and is not harmful to people, however authorities said it is best to avoid direct contact.

Truck drivers will try to avoid spraying if people are outside in that particular area.
