Howard County police are investigating an incident in Columbia where shots were fired at a townhouse this 

weekend. No one was injured.  

 

Police responded to the 5700 block of Cedar Lane in Columbia on Saturday at 2 a.m. for a report of shots fired. 

A 39-year-old woman and her 8-year-old daughter were sleeping when unknown suspects fired shots at the 

home. The occupants secured themselves in a bedroom. Neither were struck or injured. Neighbors called 911.  

 

Another family member who lives at the residence, and 18-year-old male, was not home at the time of the 

incident.  

 

Detectives believe the suspect or suspects fired multiple shots toward the rear of the residence. Police are 

working to determine a motive. It appears the home was targeted. 

 

Police have increased patrols and area checks in the vicinity and ask anyone who sees suspicious activity to call 

911.
