Police Arrest Man for White Oak Sears Burglary

The following information was sent to us by Montgomery County Police:

On December 5, 2011 at approximately 12:34 a.m. 3rd District officers responded to the Sears store located at 11255 New Hampshire Avenue (White Oak Shopping Center) for the report of a commercial alarm activation.  Sears surveillance cameras revealed that an unknown male was in the store while it was closed.  After extensive searching and monitoring of store cameras by police, the suspect was observed on video in the basement of Sears.  At approximately 12:30 p.m. on December 5, 2011, the suspect was apprehended by police as he exited the Sears.  The suspect is identified as Daniel Ezeikial Grant (also known as Daniel Ezekel Grant), age 29, of the 4200 block of Dunwood Terrace in Burtonsville.

Preliminary investigation of this burglary indicates that Grant entered the Sears store before it closed on December 4 and posed as a customer.  Grant then hid in the store until the employees closed the store for the night.  During the burglary, Grant pried open cash registers and obtained an undisclosed amount of cash.

The Silver Spring Investigative Section has charged Grant with second degree burglary and theft: less than $1,000 value for this burglary.  Grant will also be charged with a similar burglary that was reported at the Sears located at 701 Russell Avenue (Lakeforest Mall) on November 23, 2011.  Silver Spring detectives have been in contact with Howard County detectives and Grant will be facing additional charges for a burglary of a Sears store in Columbia, Maryland that occurred last weekend.

After a bond review hearing today for the December 5 burglary, Grant remains in custody on a $100,000 bond.
