County Executive Dedicates New 911 Call Center

UPPER MARLBORO, MD – Prince George’s County Executive Jack Johnson today joined Public Safety Director Vernon Herron and several public safety officials to dedicate the new 911 Call Center in Bowie.

“When I became County Executive eight years ago, I knew that we needed to improve our public safety communications,” Johnson said.  “With the opening of this brand new facility and our new 700 megahertz radio system, we now have the best communications system in the country.”

Construction of the 40,000 square foot, $36 million facility began in March.  Officials expect to have the entire building operational by February 2011. The new facility will increase Fire/EMS and law enforcement dispatchers from 20 to 29 and also includes 32 console positions to process 911 calls.

Just a Few More Days for Giant's Annual Good Neighbor Food and Funds Drive

There are just a few more days to contribute to Giant's annual Good Neighbor Food and Funds Drive. The drive helps five regional food banks keep their shelves stocked this holiday season. The annual hunger relief program gives customers the opportunity to help needy families by making a monetary contribution or donating non-perishable food items at neighborhood Giant stores. The Good Neighbor program is taking place in all Giant Food stores from now through November 28, 2010.

Has National Harbor Helped Changed The Image of Prince George's County?

Ask drivers from Virginia, who travel into Maryland, and they will tell you it is hard not to notice the beautiful development that overlooks the Potomac River, especially during the evening and night times where the National Harbor is illuminated with bright vibrate colors.  The National Harbor has not only become a destination, located just minutes away from our Nation's capital, but also a symbol of change for a county that has long struggled with attracting large public and private sector employers as well as high to middle-class retail options for its' residents compared to the surrounding counties.
