DC Charity Hosts 5K Race To Benefit Homeless Children

To meet the needs of the most vulnerable children and their families in the area, a local non-profit, Bright Beginnings,will hold a 5K race on Saturday, May 12 at Hains Point in D.C.

All proceeds from the race will directly benefit homeless children and their families in an effort to help them get back on their feet.

This year Patriots 15th Annual Youth Summit is a two day event May 4th & 5th 2012.  The purpose of the Summit is to get students excited about the possibility of college, study and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Local Charity Holds Seventh Annual Wine Tasting to Benefit Foster Care

 

May is National Foster Care Month. To celebrate, non-profit, KidsPeace, is holding their seventh annual wine tasting on May 24 at Corridor Fine Wine in Laurel.

From 6-9 p.m., guests will enjoy featured wines and champagnes from various countries and regions while benefitting 100 children in foster care programs throughout the D.C. area.

Thirty percent of all winery direct sales will be donated to benefit the KEYS program, which provides life-skills training for foster youth ages 16-20, who face uncertain times as they prepare for their transition from care to independent living.

Fenton Street Market Returns to Veterans Plaza

The following information was sent to us by Karen Falcon: Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett will ring the opening bell as the Fenton Street Market (FSM) returns to Veterans Plaza on April 28.  Leggett will make the market’s first purchase from Ryan Eicher, a young, local Silver Spring glass artist who got his start at FSM.  Joining them will be Aminata Camara, a Silver Spring business woman who got her start at FSM last year and has created a business from her hobby of knitting.

This is the Eighth of an Eight-Part Feature on the designers’ vision and progress at the DC Design House, which is now open through May 13th. The DC Design House benefits Children's National Medical Center.

Victoria Sanchez of Victoria Sanchez Interiors in Alexandria, VA, www.victoriasanchezinteriors.com, was inspired by her own children for the design of Space 21, the Teenager’s Getaway. “I looked to their likes and dislikes, and their wants and desires as I created this design,” says Sanchez, who is excited to part of the Design House but also knows the amount of work that had to be completed in a short period of time.
