Participate in National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week

The Department of Environmental Resources’ (DER) Animal Management Group (AMG) will join the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) to celebrate National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week from November 7 through November 13, 2010.

The week-long event, designed to recognize and celebrate the lifesaving services provided by animal shelters, will conclude with an Open House held on Saturday, November 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Animal Services Facility at 3750 Brown Station Road in Upper Marlboro.  Citizens and residents are encouraged to attend and meet the many wonderful pets available for adoption.

The Animal Services Facility provides many services to the citizens and residents of Prince George’s County.  These services include spaying and neutering homeless animals; placing them in loving homes; helping injured, sick, abused and orphaned animals; and teaching responsible pet care and ownership.

“Animal shelters are community organizations,” said Charles W. Wilson, Director of DER.  “They need the public's support and the involvement of community members to enhance their programs and to achieve their potential."

Community involvement goes a long way.  Come out and show your support by participating in National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week.  Citizens and residents are invited to visit the Animal Services Facility, adopt an animal, purchase the appropriate license, or donate much needed items to the shelter.  For a wish list of items needed at the Facility, please visit our website at www.princegeorgespets4us.com.
